Our Story
We Didn't Build
a Spreadsheet.
We Built a Tool.
Dig Fill exists because the most important calculations in groundworks were still being done on the back of a welfare van. That's not a workflow. It's a liability.
Every site has a version of the same scene: someone with a calculator app on their phone, multiplying length × width × depth, then calling the merchant and guessing on the density. Half a lorry of sharp sand left over. Three extra grab loads booked because the clay bulked more than expected. A variation claim that takes three months to settle.
We've been on those sites. We know what it costs — in materials, in time, and in the arguments it starts. So we built the tool we wished existed: one that applies the right formulas, the right standard dimensions, and the right density data, right there on your phone, in the field, before the first machine turns a bucket.
"Every over-order is a conversation you shouldn't have had. Every under-order is a programme delay you can't afford."
Dig Fill isn't an app built by a software company that stumbled across groundworks. It's a tool built from the ground up — literally — with input from site managers, groundwork contractors, civil engineers, and every person who's ever had to justify a materials spend to a QS on a rainy Friday afternoon.
Mission Matrix
Make precision the default, not the exception, on every groundworks site in the UK.
The gap between what experienced professionals know and what most sites actually calculate is enormous. We're closing that gap — one trench at a time.
What We Stand For
Built on Three Principles
Arithmetic Honesty
We publish every formula. We reference every standard. If a calculation is an assumption or estimate, we say so — clearly, not buried in small print. You should always know exactly how your number was produced.
Site-First Design
The UI is designed for gloves and mud, not a marketing deck. Large touch targets, offline-first architecture, results you can read at arm's length when your phone screen is dusty. If it doesn't work on a scaffold board at 7am in January, it doesn't ship.
Trade Respect
Groundwork is a skilled, physically demanding, technically complex profession. It holds up every building in the country. We built Dig Fill accordingly — not as a toy app, but as a professional instrument worthy of the trade it serves.
Manifesto
For every site manager who's had to re-book a lorry because the volume came out wrong.
For every groundworker who's been told to "just order a bit extra" by someone in an office who's never lifted a pipe.
For every QS who's had to defend a materials bill that was always going to run over because the original estimate was done on a guess.
Muddy hands deserve precise numbers. That's why Dig Fill exists.
